Feminist Majority Endorses Ralph Northam for Virginia Lieutenant Governor

Today, the Feminist Majority, a leading national women’s rights organization headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, proudly endorsed Dr. Ralph Northam, to be the next Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. State Senator Northam has been a leader fighting for women’s rights and healthcare in the Virginia Senate.

“Dr. Northam is upfront and clear in his support for women’s rights and health.  And it is not just messaging!  As a medical doctor, Northam has stood up in the Virginia State Senate for women’s health and against the War on Women waged by some Republican senators.  He led the successful campaign to defeat the transvaginal ultrasound bill. When Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli fought for the TRAP law which would lead to closing many women’s clinics, Dr. Northam testified in a public hearing against these unnecessary and harmful regulations. Women in Virginia need a champion like Dr. Northam to fight with us for our rights” said Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority and resident of Virginia for several decades.

“I am proud to have the support of the Feminist Majority and NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia in my campaign for Lieutenant Governor.  Together, we have worked to expand women’s access to health care, and we will continue to fight the Republicans extreme social agenda.  With Ken Cuccinelli and E.W. Jackson on the Republican ticket, a woman’s right to choose will be front and center in the general election.  I can use my credibility as a physician to protect the doctor/patient relationship and keep politics out of personal medical decisions,” said Senator Ralph Northam.

The Feminist Majority is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence led by Eleanor Smeal, a nationally recognized women’s rights figure. Feminist Majority’s research and action programs focus on advancing the legal, social and political equality of women with men, countering the backlash to women’s advancement, and recruiting and training people to encourage future leadership for women’s equality.
