Morgan Carroll (D-CO-6) is challenging right-wing incumbent Rep. Mike Coffman (R). This race is rated as a toss-up by the Cook Report. In Colorado, Carroll was elected to be President of the Colorado State Senate. She is a strong supporter of protecting civil liberties, achieving pay equity, and reproductive rights.
Background and Achievements
After putting herself through law school, Carroll and her mother opened up one of the few mother-daughter law firms in the country. In her law career, she helped advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. Elected to the Colorado House of Representatives 2005-2008, Carroll served as the Majority Caucus Chair and on the House Judiciary Committee. Elected to the Colorado Senate in 2008, she was chosen by her colleagues to be the Democratic Caucus Chair, Democratic Majority Leader, President of the Senate and in 2015 the Democratic Minority Leader. Carroll is the recipient of many awards including Emily’s List Rising Star, Denver Post Winner of the 2014 Legislative session, Top 10 Influential Women in Colorado by Denver Post readers, and the 4th Most Powerful Person in Denver by 5280 Magazine.
