Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)

Debbie Stabenow is running for re-election for her fourth term in the U.S. Senate.

Background and Achievements

During her tenure, Senator Stabenow has been a strong advocate and leader for women’s rights. She has served as the Chair of the Democratic Steering & Outreach Committee which works on Democratic policy initiatives for the Senate.  She is a member of the Senate Energy, Finance, and Budget Committees and a ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Positions on Key Issues

  • Supports women’s rights and reproductive health and rights
  • Supports the Reducing Educational Debt Act
  • Supports Affirmative Action
  • Supports LGBT rights
  • Supports making health care affordable
  • Supports clean energy and water and land conservation
  • Supports criminal justice reform

Prospects & Opponents

Stabenow’s race is rated likely Democrat leaning by the Cook Report. She is being challenged by Lena Epstein, a businesswoman who co-chaired Donald Trump’s campaign in Michigan, and former Supreme Court Justice Robert P. Young, a Conservative Republican. In August 2017, Kid Rock gained support from Steve Low, president of the  Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC formed during the 2016 election for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Low said, “we’d be actually very interested in his candidacy” according to Politico. MLive called Stabenow a “formidable campaigner” but Republicans are dead-set on getting as many seats in the Senate as possible.
